We had the pleasure of partnering with the Illinois Office of Tourism to welcome journalists Michael and Anja from Germany for a jam-packed visit showcasing the history, local flavors, and hospitality of our lovely town. The Underground Railroad, architecture, and art were just a few of the interests that brought them to our community, and Jacksonville had so much to share!
From the Jacksonville Area Museum, Woodlawn Farm, and Jacksonville African American Museum to the David Strawn Art Gallery, Governor Duncan Mansion, and our historic downtown, there were so many stories to tell. Add in our local restaurants and a stay at Blessings on State, and they had a wonderful opportunity to experience Jacksonville!
One of my favorite moments was our intimate dinner Monday evening at Proud Richard’s. Gathered inside a piece of Jacksonville history, our guests had another chance to connect with the people who helped bring our community’s stories to life. Michael shared how happy it made him to see so many generations around one table, sharing stories of our beloved Jacksonville. That meant so much to hear.
I am so grateful to our community for always showing up and helping us put our best foot forward. Opportunities like these come together through partnerships, and we appreciate everyone who opened their doors, shared their time and knowledge, and made our guests feel welcome. A special thank-you to Proud Richard’s for opening especially for our group and making that evening possible.

October at the movies 🎃🎬
Illinois Theater has a full month ahead, with new releases hitting the big screen alongside Halloween favorites — from Corpse Bride and Hocus Pocus to Beetlejuice, Casper and a Halloween night double feature.
And there are a few extra reasons to head to the movies this month. Little Shop of Horrors is just $2 thanks to Hembrough Tree & Lawn Care, with special 9 PM showings of A Nightmare on Elm Street on October 17 ($2 thanks to Subterranean Sound and Vision) and Army of Darkness on October 24 ($2 thanks to Street Trash).
Then, Halloween night calls for a double feature: Halloween + Halloween II at 9 PM with FREE admission, sponsored by the makers of the film Holler. 🎃
