Full-Throttle Fun

As the sun dips below the horizon on a warm Friday evening, the revving engines at the starting line at Jacksonville Speedway rumble and reverberate through the metal stands nearby, holding a crowd gathered in anticipation of the high-octane action that echoes through the air every summer. With a wave of the checkered flag, they accelerate, building speed to a sprint as they careen into the high banks of the first turn. They negotiate the turn with expert precision, speeding into a straightaway before turning back toward their origin, roaring past a cheering crowd, circling the track until the checkered flag waves once again, signaling the conclusion of yet another heart-pounding race.

Home to a wide range of classes — sprints, micro-sprints and 305s, street and pony stocks, and modifieds — the quarter-mile dirt track at Jacksonville Speedway has been a staple of Jacksonville’s competitive spirit since 1949. That legacy lives on more than 70 years later as generations of drivers compete every summer at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. Don’t miss this exciting Jacksonville tradition!
