The Art Association of Jacksonville is pleased to welcome Connie Thatcher and Bernie White Hatcher to The David Strawn Art Gallery, 331 W College Ave., Jacksonville, January 11^th-26^th.  An opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 11^th from 6-8 p.m. with “Gallery Talk “ by the artists at 6:30 p.m.

In 1991 Connie Thatcher, from House Springs, MO, began to tired of working the 9 to 5 grind in the field of photography so she began to sell her stained-glass creations at local art shows.  She quickly became frustrated with the limitations of stained glass and began to learn techniques of fused glass.  She fell in love with all of the possibilities of fused glass, and she continued to work in this medium for the next 20 years.

Bernie White Hatcher is an acrylic on canvas and acrylic & ink on paper artist from Springfield, IL. The intrinsic nature of landscapes has always been the force behind her drive to create.  As the years rolled by, her landscape paintings have changed considerably.  Bernie says that “the passage of time has such an influence on all things – attitudes, growth rates, fashion, philosophies, science, technology, art and so much more.”  For Bernie, her sense and understanding of landscapes deepened, and with that the parameters that traditionally defined “landscape” expanded for her as well.
