Author Event & Book Signing: Kate Moore, Woman They Could Not Silence
Our Town Books of Jacksonville, Illinois invites you to join us for a very special literary night with #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Kate Moore (The Woman They Could Not Silence, Radium Girls).
On Friday, September 26 at 7:00pm, Moore will speak at Illinois College’s Rammelkamp Chapel for an author talk and book signing event, specifically discussing her book The Woman They Could Not Silence and its history regarding Illinois’ first state hospital for the insane, started in Jacksonville in 1847.
Just imagine—it’s 1860 in Illinois and Elizabeth Packard, a housewife and mother of six, finds herself locked up in an insane asylum in Jacksonville, IL just because she disagreed with her husband. In her book, Moore shares Elizabeth’s shocking yet inspiring true story—one which still resonates to this day—as well as behind-the-scenes stories from her in-depth research for her critically acclaimed book.
“Another fast-paced work of narrative nonfiction… A must-read for anybody interested in women’s history or the history of reform in the United States. Like The Radium Girls, this volume is a page-turner.”
